Lofoten Golf Links

The golf course on Gimsøy, Lofoten, is an as yet unfinished gem. The originalidea for a course

in the exotic location was conceived in the 1980’s by Tor Hov. His youngest son Frode has pursued

the development of the project and worked with Jeremy Turner to create what promises to be

a masterpiece along the seashores of the northern coast of Lofoten.

Only 3 holes of the 18 hole course have as yet been constructed – these in combination with

6 simple short to medium length holes comprise the present 9 hole course.

The course offers the ultimate seaside experience with direct contact with, and often play from,

the seashore. Pure white sand underlies the peaty top layer where the rest of the course is to be built.

This means perfect conditions for links golf with excellent drainage and fast running turf.

The opening of the course even attracted the well-known golf journalist and author

Malcolm Campbell from Scotland. He enthusiastically shares the architect’s views on the

potential for building a classic links course in the land of the midnight sun.
